A Warm welcome to the Victorious Indian U-19 Cricket team
On 29th August, the Indian Under 19 World Cup winning team received a warm welcome at Mumbai airport followed by felicitation by BCCI at a suburban hotel. The players were awarded a cheque of Rs. 20 lakh each by the BCCI. 15 lakh each was given to the team management and support staff. Chief selector Abey Kuruvilla was also honoured for bringing together a winning team.
Victorious team skipper Unmukt Chand thanked the team and the support staff for realising the victory. BCCI secretary Sanjay Jagdale, congragulated the team and pointed out that that the turning point was the closely-fought match against Pakistan that the squad, won.”It was a great performance and a great achievement especially as they bounced back after losing to West Indies in the initial match,” said Jagdale.” Whatever opportunity they got, they made full use of it,” the Board secretary said. On being asked whether the players could play at the higher level, he said, “Why not. This is the stepping stone. There is a lot of cricket left. They need consistency and I am sure they are capable of it.”Jagdale added that the Board was trying to create opportunities in order to improve the game. The cut off has now increased from under 22 to under 25. The team had been to West Indies and next they will be going to New Zealand so that they can practice better on good sporting wickets. With this victory India’s future in Cricket seems very bright.
